Bicycle donations for the TDA Foundation

I am raising money for the Tour d’Afrique Foundation to give something back to the people and the communities we pass through along the way.

Raised so far: $600/4 bicycles

Funds raised will be used to donate bicycles to organizations and individuals in Africa. Every €100 (currently about $150) delivers one utility bicycle to a worthy recipient. The most common recipients are health care workers who can reach far more patients with the aid of a bicycle. Under normal circumstances, the average HIV/AIDS volunteer can reach 20-100 HIV patients per month without a bicycle, but from 60 to over 800 in some cases with a bike! In countries like Botswana where 24% of the adult population has HIV, this can make a serious difference in getting people the treatment they need.

Did you know? With proper treatment, a pregnant HIV-positive mother can give birth to a perfectly healthy HIV-negative child?

Other recipients of bikes in the past have included teachers and students, youth organizations, and community volunteers.

Bicycles are provided through partnerships with organizations like Africycle, BEN Bikes, and the California Bike Project, as well as through local bicycle purchases in Africa.

How to donate:

Now that I’m on the tour, please donate directly through the TDA Foundation’s website. DONATE.

On their website, you can pay with a credit card, Paypal account, bank draft, or wire transfer.

If you donate before April 30, I can send you a picture of your bike(s) being presented. Donations after that point will be applied to the 2011 tour.

Is this tax deductible?
The TDA Foundation is a Canadian organization and has not yet received its official non-profit status. Unfortunately, that means that donations are not tax deductible at this time.
